Taking Care of Orchids
Sep.05, 2010 in
Still Life
A friend is getting ready for an extended trip. She asked Karen to take care of her orchids for a few months. Since they are blooming now, that’s a treat.
This is an Asiatic Slipper Orchid (Paphiopedilum maudiae – variety: coloratura), originally native to Borneo and Southeast Asia.
Notice the little face in the middle of the open bloom.

Very pretty orchid! I like the shape of the flower and the stripes are great. I wish you luck for taking care of those orchids – they can be very difficult.

It’s such a gorgeous bloom. I’d be afraid to take care of someone else’s orchinds! But I’m sure Karen knows what she’s doing. :)

I love orchids , but I need to confess that I’m not good with names and stuffs,I appreciate the wonderful beauty of the flower. Thanks for teaching more about this gorgeous and so delicate flower.
Also thanks for your always kind comments, I would like to say I’m completely amateur about photography, I have a normal digital camera, and I don’t have tripod at all, I wish I can have more professional stuffs and knowledge someday!
In that museum, they allow to take pictures without using flash. So I got this chance.
I’m happy that you like my pictures

I LOVE orchids! I love ladyslippers but the only ones that I have ever seen are lone, rare ones in the Massachusett’s woods. This a gorgeous photo! It’s funny, too, I am a coloratura soprano. This is a fun post for me, for sure! =]

Orchids fascinate me! You are so lucky to have them so close. Sometimes, I go to Pukekura Park in New Plymouth that has a fabulous hothouse with them in it.

Orchids are fascinating plants and this flower is a beauty. A couple of months ago I bought a ground orchid from Malaysia that is totally different from all the others I’ve seen.
