Port Townsend Life
One way to beat the heat is to walk on North Beach. As a breeze almost always blows onto the beach off the 55 degree Strait of Juan de Fuca, we have a built in air conditioner. Add sea fog and we actually had to wear jackets on our mid-day walk.

Hi Michael. I sort of agree with your sister about the heat this summer in this part of the country. This is only my second summer here and before that I spent two years in Irving Texas which is in Dallas County. This year there’s been a several days that were worse than Dallas but in Dallas the day and night extreme heat with no breaks seems to go on and on and on. :) My wife and I were just talking about how nice it would be to live in Washington along the coast especially in the summer. It never got this hot in Costa Mesa, California, that’s where we’re from.
I like your photos very much and Port Townsend looks like a wonderful place.

Hi James, Port Townsend is certainly the place to beat the heat. It has one of the lowest accumulated crop heat unit ratings in the continental US. We think 85 constitutes a heat wave. My family outside of Washington laughs at me when I complain.
Our average July and August high is around 72. But then the average low in January is around 37 degrees. The extreme mean temperature goes from 41 in January to 62 in August.

Lovely composition to this, Micheal…
My husband & I live in North Beach & thrive in coolness after experiencing CA’s heat! When we first moved here, we were wondering what the heck was going on when we saw the news channels putting out heat adviseries and the location of cooling centers when the temps were simply in the mid-80′s! We still laugh…! Welcome to PT, James.

Oh! Love this. Especially that spot of yellowy-orange on the rock.

That breeze would have been extremely useful here the whole week!… Beautiful and mysterious image!
