Cleaning the Boat
Boats are romantic. Some boats, especially sailboats are beautiful. The sad truth is that boats are a lot of work. Here we see a fellow hosing down his boat in Point Hudson Marina. In the background is the Northwest Maritime Center.
Last evening the Center opened its first juried photography show, On The Water: An Exhibition of Maritime Photography. I didn’t win any prizes but did get two photos into the show, Moon Over Maritime Center and Chinook. I’m excited, as this is the first time I’ve ever entered a juried show.

I agree with Mike. I think when man first went to sea in a boat made of animal skins, bone and wood, that is when the love affair began ! The 6 weeks I spent in PT renewed my love for the water. It’s 30+ years since I was out on a catamaran and fell in love with the wind in the sails……..some day when I win the lottery…………I’m there.

I love boats! And I love watery reflections! You’ve got terrific captures of both! Have a wonderful weekend!

I love to gaze at boats but, I think I am glad I don’t own one…just for the upkeep reasons. They certainly do create beautiful reflections in the midst of everything else near the water’s edge. I love the yellow/orange of the building just floating on top of that water!

I’ve always liked watching sailboats. This is a very nice reflection. The colors on the building really stand out. The photos that you entered in the show were excellent. Congrats!

I think just getting into a show is an exceptional accomplishment
congrats
I love the warm tones of the building reflected in the cool water

Yes, a lot of work.but to work in such a beautyful landscape makes the things a little easier!

How true, how true – and that is why our boat is managed by a charter company. It’s great – no hauling out and scrubbing, no maintenance, no endless painting.

A beautiful weekend scenery for sure!Great photography!
I like a lot the reflections on the water, just perfect!

This is full of reflections, great!
August 20th, 2010 at 10:31 am
How does that work in the digital age? Do you have a print made of the photos you want to enter or what? Congratulations.
August 20th, 2010 at 11:48 am
What a geeat reflection photo. Love boats too.
August 20th, 2010 at 12:03 pm
I have a printer that will output 13 X 19 prints, so I’m printing my own. Now printing is one of those areas where you can get one click results but can take years to learn. I still have a long way to got, howerver am able to output usable prints. They’re not quite what I want, but are as close as the Costco prints I was using before.

Congratulations for entering the show and having two photos accepted!
Yes, boats ARE a lot of work. But taking photos of them is a lot of fun. :)

You’re a winner in more ways than for one juried photography show, Michael!
Your eye and efforts beautify the lives of so many! Thank you & congratulations!

What a great picture. Lots going on that absolutely fit well together. I looked at the two photos you entered. They are both great but I really loved “Chinook”.
August 20th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
This is a marvelous shot with wonderful reflections!
I have to agree that even getting in a juried show is an accomplishment to be proud of.
Both of your entered shots were fabulous but Chinook was as John said ‘flawless’.
You will be telling us of a win someday – I’m sure of it. :)

Congratulations and well deserved. I like boats, but I don’t think I’d want to own one. I’ll stick with motorcycles.

I like the colors of the marina building and how they show up so nicely in the reflection in the water! What a great capture!
August 20th, 2010 at 5:15 pm
Gee, the colours you have captured here are a delight to the eye. Plus the lines of masts and reflection and hose. My rule today is to visit as many ‘even’ posts as possible. Let’s see how far I can get …

I love the depth of this!

Lovely sailboat. I’m sure it takes a lot to maintain it.
That’s great that you’ve got 2 entries. I looked and they were great. I still say your entries are winners even if you didn’t get any prize. They were fantastic shots!

Very interesting post. It is the first time I visit your blog and really enjoyed the things I saw here.
Congratulations for the pictures chosen by the jury.
Thank you very much for visiting my blog.

Boats are a lot of work, but for those who enjoy them it is a labor of love. I love the reflection in this shot, the water has just the right amount of ripples!
Thanks for coming by; and probably what you call tansy ragwort is the same plant as what I pictured.

I was born by the seaside (Nazaré-Portugal) and lived there until the age of 13 and I love boats!

Beautiful picture. The contrast color of the building and the boat surrounded with calm water… I can almost hear myself sighing wishing to be there just watching everything for hours…. Can you believe it that I’ve only been sailing in a yacht once in my life? Shocking isn’t it..
August 21st, 2010 at 4:29 am
Very nicely composed shot. I’ve never been sailing, but always wanted to go. Must add to my bucket list. ;)
