Poppy Seeds
These oriental (bread seed) poppies are finally ready to harvest. The pods are quite clever. Notice the ring of holes just below the “crown” of the seed head? Those act like salt shaker holes, which open when the seeds are ripe. Shake the head and the little seeds come out.
We’ve been trying to figure out what the fuzzy stuff is. If anyone knows, please tell us. I included it in the photo because it’s pretty.

Good photo and interesting about the seeds. I have never seen a poppy seed pod before. It does look like a salt shaker.
Hmmm. Can you say “poppy seed pod” 3 times real fast?

Time to make poppy seed bread/cake! I do not recognize the fuzzy plant, but it makes for a nice addition to the seed pods. The bowl of seed heads makes for a beautiful autumn arrangement.

Excellent composition – the first image looks like it could be in a magazine.

Love the composition!
Including the fuzzy stems softens the hardness of the pods.
Poppy seed bread – yum!

Hiya Michael,
Very nice indeed. Lovely colouring.
Now you will have to start baking some breadrolls to put the seeds on :-)

Those are so cute! Good luck to the harvest – you’ll have a field of poppies if it succeeds.

These are lovely compositions, particularly the first. Can’t help with the identification of the pretty plant, I’m afraid. I love poppy seed heads – they’re so efficient. I haven’t been able to buy poppy seeds for a long time – better grow some, I suppose!
