I believe that the threat of raccoons to the wellbeing of cats is greatly underrated. Everyone in PT blames disappearing cats on coyote activity. But keep in mind that coyotes cannot climb trees but trees are raccoons natural envirnment. Raccoons find cat food left outside of homes an enticement. This frequently puts them in the proximity of the cats whose food is left outdoors.
This practice is the perfect way to set a trap for the cat.
