Artichokes, leafy and root veggies are what’s available now at the Saturday Port Townsend Farmers’ Market. Well, there are all sorts of products made with locally grown foods, but this is what’s fresh.

Stop by the city skateboard park on Monroe Street some time. It’s just north of the Key City Playhouse parking lot. Most afternoons there are some young people there doing some amazing stunts on wheels.

Unfortunately, not everything pops up flowers. A chess buddy was feeling faint and had to call an ambulance. The good news is that he remained conscious and the ambulance arrived in minutes.

Combining thin cedar strips and fiberglass is a technique used in making lightweight boats like canoes and kayaks. Here, we see that it can also be used in less traditional ways. Where better than Port Townsend, a West Coast center for wooden boat building, to see it used for a camper shell?

From the first Saturday in May until long after working outside is comfortable in the fall, Port Townsend Farmers’ Market is the place to be.  Along with farm produce, it offers crafts, locally made goods and plenty of food.

Went to the hospital to get my foot x-rayed for a bone spur. The hospital used to be called Jefferson General.  I think that it’s Jefferson Healthcare Hospital now. That’s what’s on the sign over the entrance. I didn’t ask. Whatever its formal name, I got very friendly and efficient service.

Our greenhouse got toasted. One useful outcome is that artist Karen Hackenberg can use some of the old metal from the frame in a sculpture project. She was helped by her friend Margie McDonald.
