This swallow is nesting in a box attached to the side of our house. I was sitting on our deck with the camera, snapping shots like a madman every time it or the other swallows swooped by. I caught several hundred shots of empty sky or blurs, and this.

April Showers Revisited

April says goodbye with another rain shower. This one opened up for just a few minutes and deposited a rainbow over Happy Valley, the low section between Port Townsend’s two main hilly areas.
Harassing the Eagle

K called me to look out at a crow dive bombing an eagle, which was perched on top of a big doug fir tree. I tried to get close enough for a shot but the eagle must have decided that it had enough before I could get in range for a sharp image. Fortunately, I did manage to catch the birds just as the eagle took off.
Male House Finch

The finches have been back at our feeder for a bit over a month now. I’ve been trying to photograph them with an interval timer. It took a few tries to figure it out and for a bird to pose during one of the timed shots. This finch volunteered.
Kah Tai Prairie Reserve

This small, about two acre, section of native prairie has been set aside to preserve the type of vegetation that was common in this area after the last ice age, over 10,000 years ago. You can find it in the Port Townsend Golf Course. The preserve is maintained by the Olympic Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society. With all the wildflowers blooming, it’s particularly lovely in spring.
