Shasta daisies grow wild in this area, often filling whole fields. They’re easy to grow, require little or no care and are wonderfully cheerful. Don’t cut them and bring them inside. I made that mistake once. They have a distinctly unpleasant odor.

I know that these plants are considered weeds, but the white seed pods are so lovely, especially with a bit of morning dew settled among the threads.

This little gal was zooming away at the flowers below our deck. The fuzzy white bars on the side of the picture are actually the posts of the deck railing.

K planted crimson clover in our empty lot. Although it makes lovely swaths of dark red amongst the grass and weeds, I never realized how pretty the individual flowers are.

Yard sale shopping is a competitive sport around Port Townsend. When you can find a gem in a free pile it’s like hitting a grand slam home run. K got this from one such pile, still in its original and unopened box. She later saw the same gadget at the hardware store for $100. The light is even solar powered.

Friday, May 7th was a sunny spring day. It was also National Public Gardens Day. What better occasion to visit the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island.
