<p>The day dawned misty and calm. That was not the challenging water that the<a href="http://www.openwaterracing.com/"> North American Open Water Rowing Championship</a> expected, but I imagine that there might have been a sigh or two of relief among the contestants.</p>
<p>The race started near the <a href="http://nwmaritime.org/">Pacific Northwest Maritime Center</a>, ran out through Port Townsend Bay and Admiralty Inlet and then several miles into the Straight of Juan De Fuca. Then the participants turned around and rowed back again. That&#8217;s a total of about 15 miles.</p>
