Port Townsend Summer Band Concert in Chetzamoka Park

Chetzamoka Park was the place to be in Port Townsend on Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of people gathered there to hear a concert by the Port Townsend Summer Band. People gathered in layers. The retired crowd brought chairs and sat in front. Families tended to spread out in the shade with picnics.

Fourth of July Fireworks from Point Hudson

Not wanting to fight the crowds at Fort Worden, I went downtown to the beach at Point Hudson. It was a much more distant view, but the lights over the bay offered a nice recompense.

Firing the Canon

Double exposure of a canon firing during the Battle of Port Gamble

I was looking through my Battle of Port Gamble photos and found the double exposure I’d taken of a canon. I first took a distant shot, then ran closer to overlay a closeup of the canon being fired. The only Photoshop work done to this was the conversion to black and white.

Civil War Enactment

Each year in June, the Washington Civil War Association holds an event in Port Gamble to portray different units and organizations that existed during the American Civil War. Participants stage battles in period uniform and provide commentary. They also have period authentic displays. The Association holds other reenactments, which I haven’t attended.

Their next event is on July 9-10 in Newport, Washington.

North American Open Water Rowing Championship

Rowing Championship race start

The day dawned misty and calm. That was not the challenging water that the North American Open Water Rowing Championship expected, but I imagine that there might have been a sigh or two of relief among the contestants.

The race started near the Pacific Northwest Maritime Center, ran out through Port Townsend Bay and Admiralty Inlet and then several miles into the Straight of Juan De Fuca. Then the participants turned around and rowed back again. That’s a total of about 15 miles.
