A Passion of Poppies

Collective nouns for groups of birds can be quite fun. A peep of chickens, a siege of herons, a covert of coots; they’re all quite proper descriptions of bunches of birds. Why can we not have a passion of poppies? These are in the Namura’s field on the corner of San Juan and Discovery.

April Showers Revisited

April says goodbye with another rain shower. This one opened up for just a few minutes and deposited a rainbow over Happy Valley, the low section between Port Townsend’s two main hilly areas.

Jefferson County Courthouse

The Jefferson County Courthouse is one of the iconic buildings in Port Townsend. It’s certainly one of the most photographed. I keep trying to come up with a different image than the standard tourist shot.

Swan Hotel

David asked for more night photos. Here’s one of the Swan Hotel, which sits just off the east end of Water Street, on Monroe.

Early Morning on Water Steet

Water Street is the main business district and tourist destination in Port Townsend. I often avoid it on weekends. However, at 7:00 am it’s possible to stand in the middle of Water Street and take photos. This shot is from in front of the Swan Hotel, looking west.

Merry-go-Round

I know that this elephant is supposed to be fun and kid friendly, but I’ve always thought that it looks a bit ominous. The merry-go-round lives in front of Swain’s General Store.
