Water Street is the main business district and tourist destination in Port Townsend. I often avoid it on weekends. However, at 7:00 am it’s possible to stand in the middle of Water Street and take photos. This shot is from in front of the Swan Hotel, looking west.

Merry-go-Round

I know that this elephant is supposed to be fun and kid friendly, but I’ve always thought that it looks a bit ominous. The merry-go-round lives in front of Swain’s General Store.

In the mid ninety’s the old Elk’s Club building on the corner of Washington and Taylor was restored. The street level holds one of my favorite restaurants, the Silverwater Cafe.

A valley runs north to south through Port Townsend between the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Port Townsend Bay. Many mornings fog and wood smoke settles in the low stretch, as shown here on the Port Townsend Golf Club course.
