Downtown Port Townsend before the crowds arrive

Water Street is the main business district and tourist destination in Port Townsend. I often avoid it on weekends. However, at 7:00 am it’s possible to stand in the middle of Water Street and take photos. This shot is from in front of the Swan Hotel, looking west.

Kid's Ride by Swains General Store

I know that this elephant is supposed to be fun and kid friendly, but I’ve always thought that it looks a bit ominous. The merry-go-round lives in front of Swain’s General Store.

Star trails in the southern sky

Last night’s sky held that lovely combination of moonlight, glowing low clouds lit by the city, and stars.

Silverwater Cafe in the Elk's Building

In the mid ninety’s the old Elk’s Club building on the corner of Washington and Taylor was restored. The street level holds one of my favorite restaurants, the Silverwater Cafe.

A thick fog settled over Port Townsend, enhancing the glow of lights along Water Street at dawn.

Ad on the side of an old building

One of the treats we get from our old buildings is a look into the past. Here we see a mid 20th century version of billboards painted on the side of an old brick building.

Fog on Port Townsend Golf Club

A valley runs north to south through Port Townsend between the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Port Townsend Bay. Many mornings fog and wood smoke settles in the low stretch, as shown here on the Port Townsend Golf Club course.
