If you have a lot of recycling, this is where you take it. Yes, we do have curbside pickup in Port Townsend, but in the county that luxury entails hiring a private service, and they won’t pick up the whole pickup full of cardboard I just dumped off.

Moving requires lots of boxes, which I’ve been collecting for over a month. As I finish with a load of stuff, I then have to get rid of the boxes.

BTW, it’s quite fun doing this in the current weather. Yesterday, when I took this had a similar forecast to today:

“Very windy with periods of heavy rain. Lows in the 40s. South wind rising to 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph.”

Yesterday dawned dark and wet. An hour after sunrise it hardly looked like the sun was going to make an entrance all day. Puddles filled the streets as a steady rain blanketed the morning. Then around 5 pm, when it looked like the whole day would stay gray, the clouds broke and the town glowed bright and fresh.

This is what lurks on the back side of the classic Victorian buildings on Water Street.

Upstage Restaurant and PT Cyclery

The Upstage Restaurant is Port Townsend’s closest thing to a nightclub. The owner brings in some top quality jazz and blues groups and soloists. Some are local, some on national tours. The food is reasonably priced and covers vary, but are also reasonable. PT Cyclery is in at least its third location since I’ve been here. It’s my main bike store.

I have a fascination with this restored waterfront building. Originally it was a cannery, as its name suggests. Now it houses condos.

There are some fascinating old buildings, doors and stairs in the back alleys of downtown Port Townsend.
