My Port Townsend – A City in Photographs

Entries for September, 2010

Kelp in Shallow Bay, Sucia Island, San Juans

Just back from a 3 day weekend sailing/photo cruise on the schooner Zodiac in the San Juan Islands. This photo is looking west into Shallow Bay off Sucia Island. We were anchored on the other side of the island but at this point the island is only a few hundred feet wide. The evening sun [...]

Old Twin Beech Airplane

This is a WWII era plane that was parked at the Jefferson County International Airport. It’s amazing the number of planes built in that era that are still around. This seemed appropriate for a Skywatch Friday photo.

Harvest Time

This is the time of year that gardeners look forward to, when they get to use the results of all that time and labor. Unfortunately this photo of veggie goodness did not come from our garden. The resulting boat is very light, about half the weight of a basic plastic kayak. Pygmy Boats, based in Port Townsend is one maker [...]

Dressed up as a Pirate

Port Townsend’s Wooden Boat Festival was a lot of fun this year. Some of the participants not only dressed up their boats but took personal presentation to a new level. I particularly enjoyed this woman’s pirate get-up.

Paper Wasp

I’ve realized that I enjoy the ones that identify their subjects. I’ve also realized that I enjoy using photos to identify various creatures. In doing [...]

Wooden Boat Show

The 34th annual Wooden Boat Festival is on this weekend in Port Townsend. A number of boaters sail or motor up for the show, as you can see in the background. The Festival takes over the east end of town, from the Northwest Maritime Center, pictured here through all of Point Hudson.
