33rd Rhody Run

The Rhody Run is a hilly 7.5 mile race that attracts both serious runners and much more casual walkers. Walking the course is a popular activity for locals. This year the weather was perfect, slightly overcast and in the low 60s. A bit over 2400 people participated.

Waiting for the Parade

The Rhododendron Festival parade is our one annual parade. People take getting seats seriously. At a quarter to 7 in the morning, most of the available seats for the upper parade route were already set out and taken. The parade was at 1 pm.

Dungeness River Bridge

Railroad Park is in Sequim (pronounced skwim), about 45 minutes west of Port Townsend. The park hosts the Dungeness River Audubon Center and is a wonderful place to unwind and watch birds and watch the water flow by. Rhody Festival Carnival

The Inverter seemed to be the most popular ride at the Rhody Fest carnival. It was popular, perhaps, but I had no desire whatsoever to spin upside down at high speed.

Rhody Festival Tricycle Race

The 75th annual Port Townsend Rhododendron (Rhody) Festival tricycle race had a good turnout in all age brackets. Some of the very youngest didn’t seem to quite get the concept, but by four, the kids actually raced.

Cedar Strip Camper Shell

Combining thin cedar strips and fiberglass is a technique used in making lightweight boats like canoes and kayaks. Here, we see that it can also be used in less traditional ways. Where better than Port Townsend, a West Coast center for wooden boat building, to see it used for a camper shell?

Hospital Emergency Room

This photo began as a test of a camera I’m thinking about getting and a new Photoshop feature (Merge to HDR). As such it’s a success. I like both. I like the picture too.
