Throughout the area you can find evidence of old farms. In some cases you’ll see mature apple trees and maybe the stones of a foundation. Some buildings haven’t quite disintegrated that far. I guess you could call this the picturesque stage of decay.
The day dawned, if not clear, at least warm and pleasant. Late afternoon the weather caught up to this poor guy, who had to cycle home. This is near the Keystone Ferry terminal on Water Street.
While I’m focused on backyard birds, I might as well post a photo of the store where we get our feeders and much of our bird food. Come to think of it, our binoculars came from there too. The Wild Birds Unlimited store is on US 101, in Gardiner, WA. That’s between 15 and 20 [...]
The finches have been back at our feeder for a bit over a month now. I’ve been trying to photograph them with an interval timer. It took a few tries to figure it out and for a bird to pose during one of the timed shots. This finch volunteered.
This small, about two acre, section of native prairie has been set aside to preserve the type of vegetation that was common in this area after the last ice age, over 10,000 years ago.
